  IMAGE CONTROLS

Real time for gel positioning without damaging your sample
Real time is a key feature regarding the ease-of-use of a gel documentation system. The first step of image acquisition is gel positioning and zoom lens adjustment. Real time image preview facilitates these adjustments.

Integration time for natural signal amplification
The emitted light signal coming from the gel is relatively faint. A feature called integration can compensate for this low light situation. Integration allows the CCD camera to perform a timed exposure with the sensor collecting the incoming light over an extended period of time. This means that the sensor will accumulate more photons from the gel. In most cases, a few seconds integration time is sufficient.

Gray-scale monitoring for an optimum image
The image gray scale is crucial for quantitative accuracy. In electronic imaging systems, the intensity range between white and black is divided into a number of graduations known as the gray-scale. The number of graduations in the scale is determined by the specifications of the camera. With most gels, a real time image will have few gray-levels. Increased integration times will enhance the number of gray-levels. In order to obtain an optimum image, the user has to monitor the current gray-scale in order to modify the integration time accordingly.

Saturation warning for accurate analysis
Saturation occurs if the amount of light collected by the camera exceeds its capacity. In such case, the image is over-exposed and the integration time should be reduced. A saturated image is inappropriate for quantification. It is therefore crucial to monitor the saturation while acquiring the image. This is done with the pixel saturation-warning feature.

  SUPER-BRIGHT TRANSILLUMINATOR

Super-Bright is dedicated to both Syber-Green and standard Ethidium bromide gels.

The transilluminator is equipped with an innovative UV filter that highly improves the quality of gel documentation. Thanks to the Super-Bright filter, the excitation light is isolated from the gel emission light.

This allows the use of our exclusive F410 camera filter which totally transmits the signal of Syber-Green or Ethidium bromide gels.

The signal is therefore 25% enhanced compared to that obtained with a standard transilluminator.

  GLP COMPLIANCE

Our stand-alone or computer based systems comply with very strict GLP standards. As soon as the image is saved, a “shadowed” GLP file is automatically recorded.

It includes all the acquisition parameters such as the integration time, the date and hour of image capture, the original name of the image, etc.

All subsequent image treatments are also tracked and recorded (image rotation, contrast modification, etc.). Additional comments can be added from any Vilber Lourmat software.
